Urchfont Scarecrow Festival

VOLUNTEER AT THE URCHFONT SCARECROW FESTIVAL

VOLUNTEERING TIME
TO THE FESTIVAL

  • How do I volunteer?

Anyone can volunteer to help. We understand that people have busy lives and many villagers host friends and family from outside the village over the festival, so we invite volunteers who can commit to anything from a couple of hours to the whole festival. It all helps.

Please click on GET IN TOUCH and fill in the contact form below or email us at rota@urchfontscarecrows.co.uk for more information and to let us know you are interested in volunteering.

  • What kind of positions do you need filled?

There are loads of different jobs you could volunteer to do such as:

    • Cake servers
    • Kettle fillers
    • Ice-cream sellers
    • Barbecue flippers
    • Traffic marshals
    • Trail map sellers

  • How much time do I need to commit?

We are grateful for any support you can offer. Some helpers volunteer a couple of hours in one day, some can manage a few hours every day. It all helps and is hugely rewarding.

CAKE BAKERS

  • Who can bake for the tea tent?

All bakers must live within the Parish of Urchfont.

  • What can I bake?

Our best sellers have been chocolate, carrot, coffee and victoria sponge cakes, but do contribute your favourite recipe. Brownies, flapjacks, fruit cake, lemon drizzle – our visitors are always very impressed with the variety.

If you are baking with a food intolerance in mind you will need to fill out an Ingredients List and bring it along with your baked items. The list can be downloaded here. There are always requests for gluten-free, dairy-free, vegan and egg-free baked goods.

  • How do I present my cake?

Please do not pre cut your cakes or tray bakes. We need to keep the cakes fresh and also control the portion size.

If you are decorating your cake, please remember that we will need to cut it before the public see it. Some toppings, although look amazing on an uncut cake, can make it very difficult to cut evenly.

Cakes that are very deep can be hard to cut.

  • What do I bring my cake in?

Please bring your cake in a tin, tray or container that has a cover. It is imperative that your container is labelled with a name AND telephone number.

Containers must be collected by lunchtime on Monday.

  • When can I deliver my baked goods?

Baked goods can be delivered to the tea tent any time from 8 am on Saturday morning to Bank holiday Monday morning.
